Perhaps the most famous depiction of prison sexual violence, The Shawshank Redemption introduces "The Sisters," a gang led by Bogs Diamond who systematically rape vulnerable inmates. The protagonist, Andy Dufresne, becomes their primary target upon arriving at Shawshank. The film is notable for portraying Bogs not as a homosexual but as a man using rape as a tool of power and torture. One scene shows Andy being cornered in a projection room and forced to his knees at knifepoint. Andy famously threatens to bite down if any of the gang members place themselves in his mouth, resulting in a brutal beating that leaves him hospitalized for a month.
