Main premise

Ek Thi Begum is based on a real woman—Ashraf Bhatkar, a.k.a. Sapna Didi—whose husband was reportedly killed by Dawood Ibrahim’s gang. The real Ashraf later attempted to assassinate Dawood with the help of a mentor. Although the series takes creative liberties (the real story was far more complex, involving a plot to shoot Dawood with the help of a policeman), the core premise—a wronged wife taking on the underworld—remains true to the historical figure.
